Ecogas Papakura Sorting and Consolidation goes live!
Ecogas are thrilled to announce that the Papakura Sorting and Consolidation (SCF) is officially operational, having been signed off by Auckland Council. This facility is a key part of delivering sustainable waste organic disposal for Auckland homes and businesses. The SCF will act as a central point for the collection of waste organics and the first step in quality assurance. Once collected and inspected, the waste is then consolidated for transport to the Organics Processing Facility in Reporoa, utilising previously empty back haul trips out of Auckland back to the Waikato. The recently opened Reporoa Organics Processing Facility will repurpose the waste organics into quality, renewable energy, CO2 and Fertify™ Regenerative Fertiliser.
To effectively and efficiently manage these waste streams, Ecogas has built a world class facility. The SCF has the capacity to process 1,500T of waste organics every week and is able to receive waste from 30 collection trucks per hour.
The tick of approval from Auckland Council is the latest advancement in our journey to close the food and energy loop for a sustainable future. Auckland Council will be heavily involved in the next steps, with their household food scrap collections going live in 2023. Ecogas and Auckland Council have established a partnership that will span decades, having entered into a 20-year contract for the processing of household waste organics.
Auckland Council have joined Ecogas to be part of the solution, taking the city’s residential food waste full circle.
